Alteia at GTR Africa 2026

Alteia was pleased to support GTR Africa 2026, held in Cape Town as part of GTR’s 20-year anniversary of the event.

Representatives from across the Alteia team attended the conference, joining discussions with banks, investors, development finance institutions, corporates and trade finance professionals from across the continent and beyond.

A key theme throughout the event was the evolution of the trade finance gap discussion. Rather than focusing solely on its size, conversations increasingly centred on how capital can reach SMEs more effectively, how African banks can strengthen liquidity, and how regulatory frameworks can support greater capital allocation to non-bank financial institutions financing real trade activity.

Ian Henderson, Chief Investment Officer, participated in the panel discussion, “Driving African trade growth through African banks, funds and capital: New mindset required?” The session explored the role of private credit in African trade finance, the importance of unlocking SME liquidity, and how banks, funds, institutional investors and development finance institutions can contribute to the growth of the asset class.

The conference also highlighted the growing collaboration between banks, non-bank financiers and fintech platforms as market participants seek new ways to expand trade finance capacity and support economic activity across the continent.

Thank you to GTR for hosting another successful event and to everyone who took the time to connect with the Alteia team throughout the conference.
